Treatment Approach
Specializing in Anxiety, Mood, Behavior, Crisis, Trauma, and Family Issues means that I am a strong CBT clinician.
CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to understand why we think feel and behave the way that we do. Through this process of gaining understanding and insight, we work to make changes to improve maladaptive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
In addition, it is a strength area of mine to address overwhelming emotional reactions and or behaviors in regards to frequency or intensity. In other words, crisis. Often this develops when there is a situational occurrence in regards to a trauma (that is not always the reason, as biology and hormones play a major role as well). In these cases, I utilize a combination of CBT, Behavior Modification, DBT, Crisis Intervention, Anger Management, Grief Therapy, Systematic Desensitization, Mindfulness, and Relaxation Techniques to help reduce distress, improve behavior, and restore a healthy level of functioning that has been impaired.
Values shared in my practice include: effective communication, realistic expectations, useful coping skills, healthy lifestyle choices, and good decision making. This is accomplished by assessing the level of functioning, utilizing strengths, gaining self awareness, identifying underlying issues, creating and achieving goals, and ultimately finding satisfaction and success in work, school, relationships, and life.
The bottom line in therapy with me - is to figure out what is impeding your functioning and then to find and implement a solution or solutions to improve or fix it. Therapy doesn’t cure, it treats.
My psychodynamic approach allows me to adapt, pull from, and implement a variety of treatment styles to ensure client needs are met. While most people will come in with one or two presenting or pressing issues or concerns, it is common and likely that additional and underlying topics eventually come up as well. For these reasons, I am well prepared to provide a range of effective treatment modalities.
